My lifelong mission is to transform science — the sum of its methodology, philosophy, culture, and concepts (what I’ve called “scientific thinking”) — into a lens through which we see and solve the world’s challenges. Over the past fifteen years, through entrepreneurial ventures and large-scale social impact projects, I've worked to modernize the relationship between science and society.
Adam Bly is a scientist and entrepreneur who has spent the past fifteen years innovating at the nexus of science and society.
Currently, he leads data at Spotify. He previously founded and was CEO of Seed Scientific, the ground-breaking data innovation firm, which was acquired by Spotify in 2015.
Named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum, he has lectured at the United Nations, MIT, NASA, The Royal Society, The National Academy of Sciences, the World Economic Forum, and before the U.S. House of Representatives on the role of data and science in society. He was a Visiting Senior Fellow in Science, Technology & Society at Harvard Kennedy School, has advised Fortune 500 companies and national political campaigns on data strategy and science policy, and has served on the WEF Global Agenda Councils on Complex Systems, Innovation, and Data-Driven Development.
Deeply committed to modernizing and advancing science literacy, he founded and served as Editor-in-Chief of the award-winning science magazine, Seed; co-organized Design and the Elastic Mind, the landmark exhibition at MoMA; and edited Science is Culture: Conversations at the New Intersection of Science and Society (HarperCollins).
Born in Montreal, he began his career researching cell adhesion and metastasis at the National Research Council of Canada. For his efforts to advance the public's understanding of science, he was awarded the Golden Jubilee Medal from Queen Elizabeth II.
